The German Shepherd Dog Club of India is a member of WUSV and is affiliated to The Kennel Club of India. The GSDCI looks after the welfare and improvement of the GSD breed in the country. It has chapters all over India, managed by local club Secretaries. The GSDCI has an elected committee and office bearers, who look after the day-to-day affairs of the club under the Presidentship of Mr. D. Krishnamurthy and Secretaryship of Mr. Sanjay Desai.

Every year, the club holds an annual event called the Indian Sieger Show organized by local chapters that invite German SV Judges. From time to time, the club has incorporated rules and regulations in accordance with SV rules.

This year saw the inclusion of height measurement and gunshot shyness test. This year, the 9th Indian Sieger Show was organized by the GSDCI, Mumbai Chapter headed by Mr. R. C. Lingam, and the Secretary, Mr. Mahesh Chaudhary. The Show was meticulously organized on the lush green lawns of Andheri sports complex. The organizers had arranged accommodation for outstation exhibits inside the stadium.

Exhibitors from all over the country participated in the event. The judge was Mrs. Margit van Dorssen of the famous ‘Arlett’ kennel from Kolm, Germany.

The minor puppy bitch class saw a very few entries but nobody was present.

In the minor puppy dog class, the winner was Vinmin’s Zeus. He was awarded ‘Very Promising’ and was the only entry in the class.

The quality of the puppy bitch class winner, Babylono of Superstar, was very good; she is the daughter of top producing Indian Sieger Ch. Ful di casa Nobili X daughter of Indian V2 Lord vom Turkenkopf. She was definitely the clear winner from the beginning with very good pigmentation, correct size, balance and type with excellent expression and movement.

The second position went to Fag’s Leni, a strong female with very good movement and hind thrust. She is daughter of Hulk aus Agrigento.

In the puppy dog class, the first place went to the deserving Cassandra’s Yoker, son of Indian Sieger Uras von Blue Rose X 2003 Indian Siegerin Ch. Excel Lines Ginger. He is a medium sized dog with very good pigmentation, very good height to length proportions and type. He has a free ground-covering gait. The future should see a good and promising male in him.

The second placed puppy dog Kittu’s Able Choice was of very good type and masculinity. This puppy moved with enthusiasm and a faster gait, but was falling a bit on walking.

The youth bitch class was very interesting with very nice females. The winner SG 1 was Goldwin’s Aica bred by Mr. Ramaswamy. The female’s father Eros Forstkammer seems to be producing quality progeny. Her mother is V10 Quando vom Nordlandzwinger daughter. She is of very correct size with strong head and expression and has a very good over and under line. She performed from the beginning with spacious ground covering gait and very good movement.

The SG 2 was Woldrona of Dogmatix, again a typical female with very feminine expression and absolutely correct size. This female has very good front extension and impressive walking. The hind thrust could have been better. She also comes from very good bloodline. The father Uras von Blue Rose (Sieger Ursus Batu son and Nathalie Wienerau grandson) and the mother a Vanta Wienerau great granddaughter through Dasty Wienerau.

The youth dog class again was very interesting and had quality exhibits. The winner SG 1 went to Arlas vom Kingsland again a son of Eros Forstkammer. This dog is of medium size and has very good proportions and expression with excellent overline. He was floating on the ground with superlative walk and movement and performed till the end with great attitude.

The SG 2 was Argon vom Murrtalzwinger, a Rocco van Herdersfarm son. A very richly pigmented, expressive dog, which could not perform to the expectation, as it was recently imported to the country and could not cope with the hot climatic conditions in Mumbai.

The SG 3 went to Mirkos vom Wolfenhaus a son of Xavier von der Urbecke. A young dog of very good father type slightly stretched with good fore and hind angles, good croup, and excellent front reach. The hocks could be firmer.

The overall class impressed because eight number of dogs were graded SG. The bred in India quality has definitely improved at par with the imports.

The young female class had some of the top imports and very good bred in India females. The winner in this class was Simone vom Polarkries, a beautiful female of very good type, expression and anatomy. She is daughter of Haniball Steigerhof and her mother is Ursus Batu daughter. She moved like a dream and won her class.

The SG 2 was Ch. Saskia of Dogmatix; a top show winning bred in India bitch, strong, big, with very good proportions and good head and expression. She showed a lot of willingness in fast gait, but was slightly falling on the fore hand.

The SG 3 was again a typical medium sized female of good proportion and rich pigmentation, Senta of Dogmatix, litter sister to Saskia. She moved with spirit and willingness. Both are daughters of former Indian Sieger Vigor drei Birckenzwinger and their mother is Erde vom Poppenberg, a Karly Arminius granddaughter.

The young dog class had a very good fight between two rated dogs from Germany.

The SG 1 Zapp o d Kovacica was clearly the winner of the class. He was SG 34 in 12 to 18 months class in the German Sieger Show 2006. He is of very good type, has good expression, very good front and hind angulation, excellent movement, and was handled to perfection.

The SG 2 was Tyson v Jabora, a correct size masculine male of good proportion and rich pigmentation. The judge gave him a chance by placing him over the SG 1 dog, but he could not capitalize on the opportunity, being a good mover but slightly overweight. This dog was SG 78 in 15 to 24 months class in 2006 German Sieger Show and SG 3 in Holland Seiger Show. He should contribute to the gene pool of Shepherds in India being the son of V 8 Dux Jeborah, and grandson of good producer, Maffy v. Arminius.

The open class females were very interesting with much quality females bred in our country. Even the judge, Mrs. Margit van Dorssen appreciated the class.  The V 1 went to Hannie vom Team Fiemereck a VA 10 bitch from Germany. After the individuals Hannie, was in the second place and a beautiful Erasmus van Noort daughter Nita vom Murrtal was at the first position. Nita performed like a dream. She was in full coat and condition. She lost at the end in fast gait. Hannie gave a flying treat on the fast movement and left everybody far behind. Nita became V 2. She was previous years V 1.

The V 3 was a Hill von Farbenspeil daughter Eicko vom Brijarwald a nice female of good construction, but was pacing most of the time.

V 4 was a top Bred in India, top winning, top size, Quando Nordlandzwinger daughter, Yola Nummer Ein. She has won many specialty shows under specialty judges before. She gave a spirited performance, could have been handled better.

V 5 was Tasha of Dogmatix a beautiful female. She was SG 2 in youth class in 2004, under Mr. Erich Boesel. She was out of condition and had a litter recently.

V 6 was a correct size Ful di casa Nobili daughter, Elsy of Dogmatix. A regular specialty winner. She was puppy class winner in 2004, under Mr. Erich Boesel and SG 2 in the young class in 2006, under Mr. Peter Reiker. She showed a very good movement. She could have been handled better.

The open class females were well represented by very good Indian bred females. And again kennel Dogmatix did very well this year. Six females were rated excellent and two of them were in the top six. Mrs. Margit van Dorssen was happy with the quality of this class.

Open Class Bitchs

The most exciting was the open male class in the show, with top German imports and famous handlers from Germany. Unfortunately two dogs from this class did not show enough confidence to gunshot and were placed last.

The first place V1 Indian Sieger went to Bob von der Grafenburg, who was clearly the winner from the beginning, with excellent structure, condition and willingness.

The V 2 went to Sammo vom Team Fiemereck, who again is a personal favourite of mine. He was in excellent condition.

The V 3 went to Vigor drei Birckenzwinger, a consistent performer over the years. And this year his offspring were graded SG in youth dog class, young bitch class.

The V 4 went to Justin zum Kolbenguss, a Quantum Arminius son of correct size and excellent proportions with very correct croup.

The V 5 went to Nero vom Hamburgerland. This dog was masculine, big, well pigmented with slightly short neck and short croup.

V 6 went to Amigo der RoteKrieger, a medium sized darkly pigmented, very expressive male of very good over and under line, impressed me much, could be handled better.

V 7 was previous years vice sieger Xavier von der Urbecke. I personally like his anatomy for his exemplary front angles and correct overline. He is a true representative of Hagdhals Arex. He moved superbly, but was not in best of coat and condition.

V 8 was Uran v Serbeland. Vice young sieger of previous year is of correct size and proportions. Should have been more confident in attitude.

V 9 was very strong, Gonzales Tronje son Eros von Nindorfer Haus who impressed everybody with fast gait and very good front reach, but placed behind (the judge thought otherwise). Should have been among the top six.

V 10 was a bred in India dog. Kimon of Dogmatix, who was placed on sixth position after the individuals. Lost many places behind, could have better hind thrust and handled better.

This year the Sieger show was very successful in terms of participation of exhibits from all over the country, very good ambience of the venue, and good organization by the Mumbai Chapter. The tremendous achievement by the Bred in India dogs and participation by many foreign handlers and breeders added to the success of this show.
